Officers and men of the 146 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Bonny have been charged to continue in their efforts at securing the nation and its citizens.
The Commander, Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta region, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS); Rear Admiral John Okeke gave this charge on Thursday, March 14, 2024 when he visited the 146 Battalion of the Nigerian Army at the Farouk Yahaya Camp in Bonny, Rivers State.
The OPDS Commander was accompanied by the Maritime Component Commander, OPDS; Commodore Adedokun Siyanbade, Commander, 6 Division Garrison, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt/Land Component Commander, OPDS; Brig Gen. Edet Effiong, Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (NNFOB); Capt. Maksum Mohammed, and the NSCDC Component Commander, OPDS, Deputy Commandant Danlami.
Others were the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) of Finima and Bonny Division, Chief Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq and Superintendent of Police Anthony Chijioke, Local Government Security Officer, State Security Service, Bonny Division, Ebi Embassy, and Police, DSS, NSCDC and NDLEA Component Commanders of OPDS Sector 3, Superintendent Hamidu Jalike, Bulum Dauda, Superintendent Sani Sa’ad, and Moses Ighews, respectively, among others.
He noted the positive efforts and invaluable sacrifices being made by personnel of the 146 Battalion and urged them to do more.
He stated that though the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi was new in his tour of duty in Bonny, there was room for exceptional performance, assuring that he would be coming more often to assess the performance of the Battalion.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer, 146 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi had expressed his delight with the visit of the OPDS Commander, stating that it was the fulfilment of a promise he had made during the visit of the Chief of Defence Staff.
He assured Rear Admiral Okeke that the 146 Battalion under his watch will continue to discharge its statutory mandate of protecting the territorial integrity of the country, thanking him for his support.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a souvenir to the OPDS Commander, Rear Admiral John Okeke by the Commanding Officer, 146 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi.
The Commander of the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Okeke had visited the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (NNFOB) where he inspected some of their facilities and received briefing from the Commanding Officer, Capt. Maksum Mohammed.
