A Rope Access technician with Candix Engineering (Nigeria) Limited, Idatonye Dan-Jumbo has accused one of the supervisors in the company, Monday Oritseshola Ojobon, of harassment, bullying, intimidation and extortion.
Dan-Jumbo, who made these allegations recently in an interview with Kristina Reports in Bonny, Rivers State, hails from Dan-Jumbo Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
“Over the years we’ve heard of such incidence where people are extorted, marginalized, bullied or threatened. I am also a victim.”
“My colleagues and I presently now in Candix, we have an ongoing situation where a supervisor by name, Mr. Monday Oritseshola Ojobon is extorting workers, bullying workers, even threatening them violently to bodily harm.”
He accused Ojobon of extorting him and his colleagues, demanding that they make returns from their salaries to his bank account.
Kristina Reports sighted some of the transaction documents wherein certain amounts of money were consistently paid into Ojobon’s bank account hours after the affected staff received their salaries.
“Presently, in our company workers are subjected to make returns from their hard earned money into his account.
“We are not just making claims, we have physical evidence which includes bank transactions and mobile app transactions to back up our claims. It is presently on going I am a victim and my colleagues are also victims of such.”
He further alleged that the amount to be remitted to Mr. Ojobon depends on how the victim earns in that particular month,
“It happens almost every month but it depends because of the availability of jobs for that month and the amount of job or the days we are involved in jobs, maybe, in a month if we cover more jobs for the month that simply means the pay for that month will be huge.”
“So, it will definitely occur but if the pay for the month is not that good he doesn’t demand at times. So, like I said, we have bank details that backup the claims we are making.”
When contacted on the matter, Monday Ojobon requested for a meet up and when Kristina Reports team met him at a bar along New Layout Road in Bonny, he was with a colleague.
He started the conversation by declaring that he does not talk to bloggers, online media persons and netizens, except professional journalists.
“Let me be clear. I don’t talk to bloggers. I don’t talk to online media people who are not professional journalists. I don’t talk to netizens.”
When the team clarified that they were indeed journalists, he got angry and drove them out of his presence warning them that “make una no go write wetin go put una for trouble oh, make police no come dey find una”.
Kristina Reports had weeks ago reported complaints from some workers on the NLNG Train 7 project alleging extortion, intimidation, harassment and borderline ethnic profiling by some companies and their managerial staff against indigenes of Bonny LGA, hosts to the multinationals.
It remains to be seen what the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), which is client to Candix and other companies, would do with regards to these allegations given its firm corporate stance against workplace harassment, intimidation, extortion and other industrial ills.
