Reno Omokri, spokesman of former President Goodluck Jonathan has referred to the people of Delta State, especially, those of Delta Central senatorial district as ‘Slaves’.

Omokri was reacting to viral pictures of the newly elected Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege kneeling to greet President Muhammadu Buhari last night when the latter, alongside the new Senate President, Ahmed Lawan visited the President.

In a tweet on his official Twitter handle @renoomokri, he wrote, “Don’t blame Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. He is the Senator representing Delta Central. One of the towns in his constituency is Escravos. Google that word. It is a Portuguese word meaning SLAVE. The man is just fulfilling his deep seated Escravos destiny.”

The tweet regarded as an assault on the identity of the Urhobo and Isoko ethnic nationalities has already received thousands of reactions.

A Twitter user was quick to disclaim the former Presidential aide, who many regard as an impostor who uses the cloak of being a pastor as a veil to lauch tirades against his political opponents .

The Twitter user, @godons42 corrected Omokri by pointing out his error to him:

“Escravos is in Warri South Local Government Area (Delta South senatorial district).

“Ovie Omo-Agege from Orogun (Ughelli North) is a senator representing Delta Central.”

Omokri, however, has remained recalcitrant, refusing to apologize to the people of Delta State for referring to them in a derogatory manner.

Reno Omokri reportedly widely regarded as a shady character since he was discovered in 2014 to have used a pseudonym, Wendell Simlin to attempt to link the then Governor of the Central Bank, Lamido Sanusi to the activities of Boko Haram.

It was discovered then that the email received by a number of journalists from an unknown ‘Wendell Simlin’ was actually authored by Omokri, who was social media advisor to President Buhari.

Digital experts, upon investigation, discovered that it was actually written by Reno Omokri, after they found his name in a Word document attached. Reno Omokri was listed as its author in the document properties.

“We just did a simple right click on the document and looked at the ‘properties’,” says Feyi Fawehinmi, a member of the team who carried out the investigation. They also contacted a newspaper to cross reference the email with previous messages sent from Omokri himself, and the metadata seems to be a perfect match, they say.

In the same vein, California woman, Deborah Campbell accused Reno Omokri of identity theft, saying that he used her son’s name, Wendell Simlin, to create a Facebook page.

It was believed that Omokri, who claims to be a pastor, as President Jonathan’s point man on the social media circuit.

The son of a deceased Nigerian Appeal Court judge, Omokri notorious for creating fake social media accounts to burnish President Jonathan’s image and demonize opposition politicians.

Campbell claimed that she is married to Omokri’s brother-in-law, adding that the presidential aide had exploited the relationship for criminal purposes.
