The newly elected Chairman of the Ogbobiri Asawo (Senior Adult Males) of the Jumbo Major House, Samuel Mina Jumbo says it is time to mainstream unity of purpose and reconciliation in order to move the House forward.

Jumbo said this in his inaugural address on Sunday, May 29, 2022 in Bonny, Rivers State, shortly after being sworn into office by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the group, Sonny Jumbo.

He called on his opponents in the election to join hands with him to revive the Ogbobiri Asawo, stressing that there was no distinction between his supporters and theirs but a common agenda to unify the House and attract development.  

“They (his opponents) are our brothers, we’re all Jumbos. What are we dragging? Let us bury the hatchet. Let us come together to move the house forward.”  

He assured that his administration’s term in office would be etched on service and inclusiveness, while thanking his supporters and other stakeholders for their support throughout the period of electioneering, promising to deliver on his manifesto.

“I want to thank you for finding me worthy to serve you. I am a humble person. I thank you very much and I will serve you. I will not lord it over you. I see myself as a servant. I am going to carry everybody along.

The Ogbobiri Asawo Chairman inaugurated other members of his executive, admonishing them to work in unity for the progress and development of Jumbo Major House, enjoining them to see their election into office as an opportunity to serve.

Other members of the newly inaugurated executive of the Ogbobiri Asawo are Samuel Jumbo, Vice Chairman; Kalada Kiriwari, Secretary; Solomon Jumbo, Assistant Secretary; Rogers Jumbo, Financial Secretary; Fortunatus Jumbo, Treasurer; Henry Jumbo, Publicity Secretary; Finapiri Jumbo, Welfare Officer; and Nengi Jumbo, as Provost.  

On their part, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Sonny Jumbo, and his alternate Chairman, Archibald Jumbo, thanked members of the group for their patience, understanding and cooperation, appealing to them to them work in synergy to reposition the group and the larger Jumbo Major House.

The Ogbobiri Asawo, which is a body within the Jumbo Major House serving as a convergence point for all senior adult males in the House, has been without a leadership for about a year.
