One of Nigeria’s very few smart schools says it remains focused in its commitment to give back to society and extend a helping hand to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) amongst other less privileged members of the society.
Proprietor of Needham International School, Ernest Chapp-Jumbo said this on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, when he led Management and Staff of the school to donate some gift items to the children at the Handmaid Orphanage at Eliohani in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He said the gesture was in futherance of the ideals upon which Needham International School was founded, noting that the aim of establishing the school was contribute to societal development through Education and posiutively impact the vulnerable members of the society.
Chapp-Jumbo stressed that the children in Handmaid Orphanage were fatherless and motherless children who require all the help they can get from the larger society, appealing to corporate institutions, individuals, enterprenuers and other well-to-do members of the public to replicate this gesture and give support to the children.
Responding, the visibly excited Executive Director of Handmaid Orphanage, Grace Opara, while thanking the Management and Staff of Needham International School for the noble gesture, noted that it takes a heart of giving for people to come to the home and show love.
She expressed gratitude to Ernest Needham Chapp-Jumbo, a former Permanent Secretary in the Rivers State Civil Service and now Proprietor of Needham International School, for his charitable disposition to the Orphanage, pointing out that such expressions of kindness never go unrewarded.
The Head Teacher of Needham International School, Christy Onuoha said the visit was aimed at building empathy in the pupils of the school, describing it “as an attempt to help the children feel the same way other children are feeling”.
She further said bringing the pupils of Needham International School to the Orphanage would help them imbibe the culture of giving and appreciate the needs of the vulnerable.
A cash gift was also presented to the Management of the Orphanage just as the children prayed for growth and progress of the school.
