The chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha has given a pass mark to the conduct of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the area.
Irimagha expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the polls in his local government area, describing it as “peaceful”.
“So far, so good, the election is peaceful. Except ward 12 that had issues of transporting materials to their various units. It has been rectified now.”
He noted that though the card reader had issues in his polling unit, alternative voting arrangement as specified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in such circumstances were utilized and the election went on without hitches.
“There was no issue in my unit. There were some issues with the card readers but there procedures to follow in case of such happening.”
Irimagha, however, expressed nostalgia with the voter turnout.
“I’m not really satisfied with the voter turnout. It is not really that the people are not ready but because of what has happened in previous elections. The threats and sudden deaths that happened in some other areas people were scared of their lives. That is why the turnout was poor but so far it is moving on”.
The Bonny LG boss, who applauded INEC for the peaceful and successful conduct of the polls, however, sued for caution until the process was over.
“Honestly, their conduct of the elections is professionally satisfactory. It is okay. Let’s not say for now. Our people will always say let’s not use the morning to judge the day. Can we allow it when it gets to the end of the tunnel? For now, it is peaceful”.
