The family house of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, located in the Lagos Island area of the state was set ablaze.

The house was reportedly set on fire by irate youths on Wednesday, a day after Governor Sanwo-Olu imposed a curfew on the state following the violent dimension that the #EndSARS protests have taken in the state.

It was gathered were reacting to the action of the soldiers of the Nigerian Army, who were seen in videos circulating online shooting at the #EndSARS protesters at the Admiralty Circle Plaza of the Lekki Toll Gate.

According to an eyewitness, one of the youths holding a jerry can of petrol was seen soaking the house in petrol but was quickly stopped by residents for fear that the fire could spread uncontrollably.

However, the youths burnt down the property.

“Around 7.45am, angry youths gathered around Sanwo-Olu’s family home on Omididun Street, Lagos Island, throwing stones and shattering glasses.

“One of the youths poured petrol on the building but was immediately prevented from setting it ablaze because the fire could spread and lead to loss of lives.

“However, the youths soon gathered again and burnt down the house.

The fire is currently spreading but firefighters have arrived at the scene,” the eyewitness told the Punch.

It was learnt that policemen attached to the Adeniji Adele Police Station had raced to the scene in a bid to quell the violence.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had imposed the curfew following the violent turn of events which the #EndSARS protests across the state took as some suspected thugs have launched attacks on peaceful protesters and vandalised properties, insinuating that the protests may have been hijacked.

Nigerians across the federation have been protesting for the past 14 days under the #EndSARS movement, clamouring for the scrapping of the now-disbanded Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (F-SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force, as well as an end to police brutality and extortion in the country.
