The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Rivers State Chapter has elected a new executive to run its affairs for the next two years.
The election, which took place during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ANA Rivers in Port Harcourt on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at the Chapter’s Secretariat in Port Harcourt, was conducted in strict compliance with all Covid-19 hygiene and safety protocols.
A Port Harcourt based veteran journalist, Adi Wali was elected Chairman of the State chapter of the association alongside eight others to man different positions.
Wali in his acceptance speech donated a plot of land to the association as his first intervention towards taking the body to the next level.
Other members of the newly elected executive were Humphrey Ogu; as Vice Chairman, Albert Otto; General Secretary, Wellington Nwogu; Assistant General Secretary, Anne Alalibo; Financial Secretary, Jonah Okpabi; Treasurer, Raphael Edookue; Publicity Secretary, Dr. Rita Inoma-Abbey; Legal Adviser, and Uzo Nwamara as Ex-officio.
Expressing gratitude to members of ANA Rivers for demonstrating confidence in him by giving him the opportunity to lead, Adi Wali promised to run an inclusive administration.
National President of the Association, Dr. Camilus Ukah, who monitored the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the good job done by the Anaele-led Committee.
He described ANA Rivers as his home, commending the members and contestants for the show of maturity during the exercise.
Citing a number of occasions, he acknowledged the cordial relationship that had existed between ANA Imo under his leadership and the late Captain Dr. Elechi Amadi with the entire ANA Rivers.
The exercise which took place peacefully, was spearheaded by a three-man Electoral Committee chaired by Anaele Ihuoma, Tengabinifigha Ogolo, and Joy Esuku, who served as Secretary.
The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) is a convergence of writers to further the vision of deepening the creative writing trajectory and strengthening the literary community in Nigeria by providing a dynamic and functional atmosphere for writers to thrive and new ones to emerge.
