48Hrs Power Restored to Port Harcourt Following National Grid Collapse

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has confirmed the full restoration of electric power across its transmission stations in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

This follows a frustrating period of darkness triggered by yet another collapse of the national grid on Monday, December 29, 2025.

The outage, which struck at 2:01pm, was the second major grid disturbance in just 48 hours, leaving millions of Nigerians in the darkness during the peak of the Yuletide season.

For a region already grappling with low voltage and gas shortages caused by vandalism on the Escravos-Lagos pipeline, this latest collapse felt like a heavy blow making residents and business owners low to the holiday spirit.

In a statement released via their official channels, PHED management apologized for the prolonged blackout, explaining that while the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) had begun national recovery, local feeders required a gradual re-energization process to ensure safety.

As of today, PHED, which serves over 14 million people across Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom—assures customers that supply is back at all stations.

While the hum of generators is finally fading in the Garden City, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

Despite promises from the Ministry of Power for swift interventions, systemic issues in gas supply and transmission continue to test the patience of Nigerians.

For now, Port Harcourt glows again, but the call for permanent grid stability remains louder than ever.
