A former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Aye Pepple has rejoined his erstwhile political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he was winning elections while in the party.
Pepple announced his return to the PDP after meeting with the Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, Desmond Akawor on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the PDP State Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
He reminisced that his glory days in Politics were in the PDP and that informed his decision to return to the party, pointing out that “I was the pioneer Organizing Secretary of PDP in Bonny LGA”.
“I was also appointed Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Bonny Local Government Council in 2003 under the PDP. Again, I contested and won the Rivers State House of Assembly Bonny Constituency election in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011, all under the PDP.”
He further explained that the task of reinventing Bonny LGA politically starts with the first step of his return to the party, urging his followers to keep faith in him and the people of Bonny LGA to expect better things ahead from the PDP.
Aye Pepple, a consummate politician, astute businessman and development enthusiast, was the member representing Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly between 2007 and 2015.
Interestingly, since his exit from the political space, no other political officeholder has surpassed his developmental footprints which spanned across the 12 wards of Bonny LGA in terms of infrastructural development, empowerment initiatives and capacity building for his constituents.
Some of the projects carried out by Hon. Aye Pepple include the construction of Central School, Bonny; construction of the Bonny Magistrate Court complex; construction of the Bonny Youth Federation Secretariat; construction of the Finima Youth Centre; and construction of the Bonny Women’s Hall.
Other projects executed the celebrated lawmaker include the construction of Titanic Football Club House, Finima; construction of erosion control and shore protection in Epelema Community; construction of jetty and shore protection in Ishile-Ogono Jumbo Community; construction of erosion control and shore protection in George Pepple Village; construction of King Eugene William Dappa Pepple Memorial Guest House; and construction of Aye Road off Abalamabie Road, Abalamabie.
He also personally constructed the St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Otobie; St. Stephen’s Cathedral convenience; between 2007 and 2009, he donated five brand new cars to the Bonny Chiefs Council.
As a gender sensitive lawmaker and pro-women politician, Hon. Aye single-handedly sponsored 25 Bonny women to Ghana under his Direct Economic Empowerment Program (Deep). It is also on record that as Caretaker Chairman of Bonny LGA, he established the first Marriage Registry out of the city of Port Harcourt in 2004, which has recorded over 5,000 marriages, so far.
