Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Nigerians have been called upon to recall the promises made by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and check if they have been fulfilled.

The call further asked Nigerians to check whether the scaremongering by the then main opposition party was real or just a strategy to mop up electoral votes for the party’s candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

This call was made by the Atiku Support Group for Greater Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator and former House of Representatives aspirant, George Ajay Banigo and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the group urged Nigerians not to be fooled again.

“We need to begin by asking the right and relevant questions in order to have the right answers. Where we do not ask the right questions we are doomed to have the wrong answers or no answers at all. Foremost, would be to ask ourselves where we were in 2015 and where we are today. We need to ask what promises were made to us in 2015 and whether those promises have been fulfilled. We also need to ask whether the doomsday images sold us in 2015 were reality or mere illusions to create a bandwagon of electoral choices in favour of the current occupiers of political offices in Nigeria.”

The group said its principal and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar was in the race to revitalize the system in order to make opportunities in various sectors of the economy accessible to Nigerians.

“To get Nigeria working again is the sacred vision, determined focus and prioritized mission of our principal, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, who has over the years distinguished himself as an accommodating nationalist, legendary job creator, developer of leaders, and builder of Nigeria. What he has achieved in business and other facets of life is what he intends to deliver on a bigger scale for all Nigerians when elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

It said Atiku needs the collaboration of all Nigerians to get the country working again, eradicate poverty

“With the patriotic collaboration of all Nigerians, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will get Nigeria working again and ensure that every Nigerian is able to access the multifarious opportunities inherent in our fatherland”.

PRESS STATEMENT

In the unfolding drama that the kickstart of political campaigns have become ahead of the 2019 General Elections, we, the Atiku Support Group for Greater Nigeria, has deemed it necessary to acquaint our fellow Nigerians of certain considerations that should shape the choices for 2019.

Given that the 2019 General Elections remains epochal as it serves as a threshold for making patriotic, strategic and definitive choices that would either set our nation, Nigeria on the path of economic progress or a regressive trajectory to economic doom, it becomes incumbent on us to consider certain issues before we go casting our votes.

We need to begin by asking the right and relevant questions in order to have the right answers. Where we do not ask the right questions we are doomed to have the wrong answers or no answers at all.

Foremost, would be to ask ourselves where we were in 2015 and where we are today. We need to ask what promises were made to us in 2015 and whether those promises have been fulfilled. We also need to ask whether the doomsday images sold us in 2015 were reality or mere illusions to create a bandwagon of electoral choices in favour of the current occupiers of political offices in Nigeria.

This is where to start in our quest to determine whether to continue with the current managers of our commonwealth or engender a change of guard. These considerations become pertinent as they would help the average Nigerian to see through the web of lies that would naturally characterize the political campaigns that have commenced across the country.

We should be able to know where we are coming from, where we are heading to, how we intended to get to where we are heading to, in order to appreciate whether we are on the right path, how far we have come and how good the journey has been.

For us, the Atiku Support Group for Greater Nigeria, we believe that in our quest for progressive development, economic emancipation and national renaissance, we have not only derailed but have lost track of the vision of our founding fathers. Our economic fortunes have nosedived deeply and drastically in the past three years that the locust administration has been on the saddle. Living conditions have become a liability for even the well-to-do. Virtually, every facet of our national life have been impugned, impeded and horrendously impinged upon. Where did we go wrong?

We have witnessed the despoliation of national institutions and how they have been converted to lethal weapons of political persecution against the opposition. We have witnessed the erosion of national cohesion, harmony and trust.

To get Nigeria working again is the sacred vision, determined focus and prioritized mission of our principal, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who has over the years distinguished himself as an accommodating nationalist, legendary job creator, developer of leaders, and builder of Nigeria. What he has achieved in business and other facets of life is what he intends to deliver on a bigger scale for all Nigerians when elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

With the patriotic collaboration of all Nigerians, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will get Nigeria working again and ensure that every Nigerian is able to access the multifarious opportunities inherent in our fatherland.

Signed:

Hon. George Ajay Banigo
National Coordinator, Atiku Support Group for Greater Nigeria
