ADC Chieftain in Ikwerre LGA Survives Arson Attack, Party’s Governorship Candidate Invites Police Probe

An alleged arson attack on a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Omuoko, Aluu community, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Isaiah Thomas, has kept many political analysts measuring the dynamics of events as the 2027 election campaigns draw near.

The attack which occured during the deadly hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, was allegedly carried out by yet-to-be identified individuals believed to be political opponents of the party in the area.

Prior to the attack, Thomas, who is the Chief Whip of the ADC in Ikwerre LGA and alternate leader of the party in Aluu, had reportedly hosted ADC supporters at his residence on Tuesday morning in a meeting that terminated peacefully at noon.

Reports have it that the assailants later stormed the compound about midnight destroying properties, assaulting parents and tenants, looting valuables and setting fire to buildings.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the ADC in Rivers State, Gabriel Pidomson, who was on his way out of the state for an official engagement on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, made an abrupt stop over at the scene to express solidarity with the victims.

This was made public in a statement posted by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ledogo Raymond, in which Pidomson was said to have visited Omuoko community to witness the extent of damage suffered in the attack.

It added that the ADC Governorship Candidate condemned the alleged attack and vowed to pursue the matter through every legitimate and constitutional means until justice was served.

He subsequently lodged a formal complaint at the Aluu Division of the Nigeria Police Force, prompting the Divisional Police Officer there, CSP James Nwosu, to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the scene later in the day alongside the the Rivers State ADC Chairman, Chukwudi Dimkpa, and other party officials.

The ADC governorship candidate called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, stressing that violence, intimidation and destruction of property have no place in a democratic society.
