Sokoto on fire as Arm bandits raids three villages, kill 25 persons

Tension rose high at the weekend as rampaging armed bandits raided three villages in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday night, killing 25 persons and leaving several others injured.

This latest attack was viewed as one too many attacks recently in the State.

Addressing newsmen, the State Chairman of Zakkat and Endorsement Commission and member on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Lawal Maidoki, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

He said that the Council Chairman and a team of joint security operatives were at Rakumni, Tsage and Kalgo villages for rescue operations.

Maidoki added that the Commission was preparing for the burial of the corpses.

Reacting to the incident, President Muhammadu Buhari, condemned the attacks, declaring that the perpetrators of the heinous act would be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the condoled with Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and the people of the State for their loss.

“The President, who was briefed about the incident and the arrest so far made by the police, condoles with Governor Tambuwal and the people of the State over the tragic incident.”

“President Buhari strongly condemns all acts of violence and terrorism against innocent Nigerians, reiterating that perpetrators and sponsors of such dastardly acts would be held accountable under the law.

“The president prays for the quick recovery of all those injured and assures that his administration will not relent in the fight to neutralise terrorists, bandits and kidnappers around the country.

Kristina Reports learnt that eight villages in the same Local Government Area, Rabah were raided last year, several deaths were recorded.

Also, in July 9 last year, when the attacks started in the State, a total of 131 lives lost.
