Tinubu Mourns Air Force Personnel Killed In Military Aircraft Crash, Declares Three-Day National Mourning
President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his condolences over the death of Nigerian Air Force personnel who lost their lives in Monday’s military aircraft crash, describing it as a painful moment for the country.
In a personally signed statement on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the President said the officers died in the line of duty and that the tragedy was a painful loss for the Armed Forces and the entire nation.

Tinubu reiterated that he has declared a three-day national mourning period in honour of the deceased, directing that all national flags be flown at half-mast across the country throughout the period.
He sympathised with the families of the victims, noting that behind every uniform is a family waiting for their loved one to return home.
“Nigeria lost brave men and women of our Air Force in the service of our country. Behind every uniform is a family. A spouse, a child, a parent, a brother or sister who expected their loved one home. Nigeria grieves with them,” Tinubu said.
The President disclosed that the Chief of Air Staff had briefed him on the incident and that he had directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent a recurrence.
He also commended the Air Force for activating an immediate search and rescue operation after the accident.
“We honour their service. We remember their sacrifice. May the souls of our departed heroes rest in peace,” he added.
